Swirl flaps seize in the intake tract, and a seized flap eventually snaps. What comes off goes straight into the cylinder, which turns an intake fault into an engine rebuild. The mechanical work comes first and it is not optional.
Once the manifold work is done, the software side stops the ECU looking for a part that is no longer fitted, otherwise it logs a fault for the missing actuator indefinitely.
