The short answer

Both Fords we calibrate run the same 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 and the same 10-speed automatic. They are forced induction, so they sit in the 15 to 30 percent band, and the job on both of them in this climate is heat rather than headline power.

What the Ford platforms share

The F-150 EcoBoost and the Raptor share an engine family and a gearbox, which is why the calibration approach carries across. The Raptor runs the HO version and leaves the factory 50 hp ahead, at 450 hp against 400 hp, so it starts from a different baseline and gets its own file rather than the F-150 file with more boost. Both are read and written on Alientech tooling at the same bench, and both get a Dragy Pro run before and after, on the same road, the same day and the same tank of fuel.

What goes wrong with a Ford here

These are the complaints that bring a car in, across both platforms.

Heat soak. A Raptor rated 450 hp gives up 60 to 80 hp in July, because intake air passes 65°C and the ECU pulls timing to protect the engine.
The 10-speed hunting for gears under sustained load, on both trucks.
Conservative factory throttle mapping that reads as lag off the line.
Power that falls away roughly ten minutes into dune work and does not come back until the truck cools.

What differs between the Ford models

Engine code first. A facelift or a market variant can change the maps completely, so the year on the door matters as much as the badge.

3.5L V6 Twin Turbo · 2021-2024

Calibrated for towing. The number that matters is mid-range torque, 678 Nm stock and an estimated 780 Nm at Stage 1, so the truck stops downshifting on every incline. These figures are the 2021-onwards truck. The 2017-2020 is rated lower and quoted separately.

F-150 Raptor

EcoBoost HO 3.5

3.5L HO EcoBoost V6 · 2017-2024

Calibrated for heat, not for a peak figure. This truck spends its life at full load in sand, so the work is in the intake-temperature timing tables and in cooling hardware. On the Stage 2 trucks we have logged, an upgraded intercooler held intake air near 38°C and the third run still felt like the first.

Ford tuning questions

Is the Raptor file just the F-150 file with more boost?

No. The Ford Raptor's HO EcoBoost is rated 450 hp against the F-150's 400 hp and starts from a different baseline, so it gets its own calibration. They share the 3.5 litre V6 family and the 10-speed automatic, which speeds up the diagnosis, not the file. The Raptor's work is heat, the F-150's is towing torque.

Which one gains more?

Both the Ford F-150 EcoBoost and the Raptor respond to a similar degree, because they share the 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 family. Pick on use. The F-150 gain shows up as towing torque, an estimated 780 Nm against 678 Nm stock. The Raptor gain shows up as power that is still there on the second dune run.

Do I need hardware, or is software enough?

Software alone is enough on the F-150 for towing. On a Raptor used in sand it is not, and we will say so before taking the booking. No calibration adds cooling capacity, and in a Gulf summer cooling is what runs out first.
