Gearbox Tuning
A gearbox that hunts is following a shift map written for fuel economy, not for how you drive.
Gearbox Tuning at a glance
A Patrol's 7AT hunts between third and fourth because the factory shift map is chasing fuel economy. It upshifts early, holds too tall a gear, and then has to come back down the moment the road tilts. The gearbox is not faulty. It is doing exactly what it was told.
We move the shift points, raise line pressure and lock the torque converter earlier so it stops searching. On a vehicle that has also been remapped this matters more, not less. An engine making more torque through a shift map written for the standard one is the most common reason a tuned automatic feels worse than it should.
Questions we get about gearbox tuning
Why does my automatic hunt between gears?
Should the gearbox be done at the same time as the engine?
Performance & drivability
Power, torque delivery and how the gearbox behaves once the engine makes more of both.
Where gearbox tuning gets done
Partner workshops in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. What changes by emirate is the drive, the fuel and whether the work can be handled remotely from a file you send.
Ask about gearbox tuning
Send the make, model and build year, and what the vehicle is doing. We tell you what gearbox tuning involves on yours before anything is booked in.
