The short answer
Every Toyota here is a Land Cruiser and no two of them are the same engine. A 3.5 twin-turbo petrol V6, a 4.5 twin-turbo diesel V8, a 5.7 naturally aspirated petrol V8 and a 4.0 naturally aspirated petrol V6. Whether yours is forced induction decides what a remap is worth on it, and half of them are not.
They are read and written on the same Alientech tooling at the same partner bench. Past that the engines diverge, and the divide that matters is boost. The V35A-FTS and the 1VD-FTV are turbocharged, so software raises boost and fuelling together and the typical result is 15 to 30 percent. The 3UR-FE and the 1GR-FE breathe atmospheric air, where the range is 5 to 12 percent and what you feel is throttle and shift points rather than a headline number. A shop quoting you the same percentage across all four has not read the engine code on your car.
These are the complaints that bring a car in, across both platforms.
Engine code first. A facelift or a market variant can change the maps completely, so the year on the door matters as much as the badge.
V35A-FTS
3.5L Twin Turbo V6 · 2021-2025
409 hp and 650 Nm stock, estimated at 480 hp and 780 Nm at Stage 1. The turbos are already sized well beyond what the factory asks of them, so the work is wastegate duty cycle and holding boost through the mid-range. The 10-speed matters as much as the engine file: it skips gears to save fuel and cuts throttle at a 700 Nm ceiling.
3UR-FE
5.7L V8 Petrol · 2016-2021
381 hp and 546 Nm stock, estimated at 410 hp and 585 Nm at Stage 1. No boost to raise, so the file works on ignition timing, which this engine takes happily, and on a six-speed that upshifts too early. Owners come in about the dead pedal, not the peak figure.
1VD-FTV
4.5L V8 Twin Turbo Diesel (LC200) · 2016-2021
268 hp and 650 Nm stock, estimated at 320 hp and 750 Nm at Stage 1. Torque is the point on this car. The work sits in IAT-based fuelling and in the AB60F torque reduction strategy, which we keep rather than remove.
1GR-FE
4.0L V6 1GR-FE · 2008-2024
228 hp and 360 Nm stock, estimated at 255 hp and 395 Nm at Stage 1. Dual VVT-i cam timing is moved to bring torque closer to 2000 rpm, which is the range towing and dune climbing actually use. Manual gearbox, so there is no TCU work to do.
