ADAS Calibration
Fit a new windscreen and the camera behind it is looking somewhere slightly different.
ADAS Calibration at a glance
Lane keeping, adaptive cruise and automatic emergency braking all read the road through a camera behind the windscreen and radar behind the bumper skin. Each one is aimed at a fixed reference the car was told to expect. Move the reference and nothing warns you, because the system carries on working exactly as designed, against the wrong target.
Four jobs move it. A windscreen replacement sets the camera in a new bracket at a new angle, and a millimetre at the glass is metres at the far end of the beam. A bumper repair or a light knock shifts the radar even where nothing looks bent. Raising or lowering the suspension changes ride height, which tilts every forward-facing sensor at once. And an alignment that changes the thrust angle changes what the car believes straight ahead means.
There are two ways to do the calibration and the vehicle decides which, not us. Static calibration is done at a standstill against a printed target board, squared to the vehicle centreline at a measured distance, on level floor with the lighting controlled. That one is done at a partner workshop in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah, because a driveway is not flat and the numbers are only as good as the floor. Dynamic calibration is done on the road, at a held speed on clear lane markings, while the module relearns. Some cars want one, some want the other, several want both in sequence.
The aiming values are written with the manufacturer's own software: Xentry and Vediamo on Mercedes-Benz, ISTA+ and E-Sys on BMW, ODIS on Volkswagen and Audi, SDD and Pathfinder on Jaguar Land Rover, IDS and FDRS on Ford, Techstream on Toyota, HDS on Honda, Consult III on Nissan. A generic scanner will often show the routine in a menu and then fail partway through it, because the target distances and the aiming data it needs are not in a generic database.
Calibration is aiming, not repair. If the camera has taken water or the radar housing is cracked, no amount of aiming fixes it, and we say so before starting rather than at the end. Where a system passes calibration and still behaves oddly, the fault is usually upstream in a module that feeds it speed, steering angle or ride height, and that is a diagnostic job.
Questions we get about adas calibration
Do I need ADAS calibration after a windscreen replacement?
What is the difference between static and dynamic calibration?
Which cars can you calibrate?
My car has been lifted. Does that affect ADAS?
The car was in a small collision and the bumper was repaired. Is that enough?
Diagnostics
Finding what set the code before anything is written, in the bay or over a remote session.
Where adas calibration gets done
Partner workshops in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. What changes by emirate is the drive, the fuel and whether the work can be handled remotely from a file you send.
Ask about adas calibration
Send the make, model and build year, and what the vehicle is doing. We tell you what adas calibration involves on yours before anything is booked in.
